Good morning, fellow Opponauts. Are any of you from the Richmond, VA area, or familiar with it at least? What's fun to do in Richmond on a Saturday night? A friend and I are going down to take the National Service Rifle Match course over the weekend and decided to get a hotel rather than drive back up to Maryland. The course ends at 5 and we don't have to be back on the range till 8 on Sunday. What sort of trouble can we get into during that time?
A Lotus 49 for your time.

Continue driving north until you get to the city? I don't know.

Last time I went, the scene there was very... hipster-y. You could troll them! :D

I'm too old for the Saturday night 'scene' as it were so my info is either out of date or 3rd party (we get a lot of VCU interns here at work so I hear things :P).
How old are you? I think the only big club left is 'Off the Hookah'. It's 21 plus and the best crowd in town but still kind of ghetto if you're used to nicer lounges in a bigger cities. There's a couple other Latin clubs I remember down there. Oh, and I've heard of a place called 'Strange Matter' which is supposed to be a cool underground music restaurant/bar/club, never been myself though. The area around the capital has some decent restaurants but it's a take a cab or travel in a group kind of place. Hell, the whole downtown area pretty much is. Your best bet is to track down a VCU student or just go to the campus and follow the crowds. If you're looking more low key and staying at a decent hotel ask the concierge.
If you have some real daylight hours a trip to the state capital and/or Museum of the Confederacy are both good visits.

Oh man, love RVA.
Jalop things to richmond: There's always american indoor karting out by RIR. There's also electric karts somewhere in town that are supposed to be awesome.
And then there's RIR if that's your thing. I think they run driving experiences in the non-NASCAR weekends. Cars and coffee Richmond is out in Glen Allen (~20-30 minutes drive from downtown RVA) but worth it. Google 'em.
Can also make a shit load of food recommendations (and beer!) if you'd like.
Food: mekong - best beer bar in the country and killer vietnamese food. A must for beer lovers. Sticky rice for sushi. Proper Pie for savory meat pies. Station 2 for burgers / milkshakes.
Breweries: Hardywood brewing has a great scenic view outside, there's also Legend brewery and Strangeways brewery.
Coffee: Will always recommend Lamplighter coffee house (3 locations <1 roastery location, and 2 cafes>). Other recommendation would be Blackhand coffee or Lift coffee.
Hope this helps. Reply back if ya need more info.

North? But we're coming from the North. That would be counter productive.
Just looking for something to do Saturday night, a good bar or something.

To be fair, I'm 30 and married, my friend is 24 and has a girlfriend, so I don't think we're going to get too wild.
But those are some good suggestions, I'll look into them. Thanks.
Unfortunately we're booked during the day both days, so just looking for a good bar or something to do on Saturday night.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. We're going to be at the range pretty much all of the day Saturday and Sunday, 8 to 5, so I'm not sure what we'll be able to do. Might consider karting Saturday night, will have to see what time and funds permit. Cars and Coffee would be awesome to see but it starts at the same time our course does. We may have to make a special trip back down for that one Saturday.
The restaurant and brewery suggestions are spot on though, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. We both love asian cuisine, so I think Mekong is on the list. My friend is Brazilian and I'm pretty sure runs on coffee, so we might have to check out Lamplighters.

I'm quite aware, I think we all saw what happened to Patrick. But Thanks for the reminder.
